Visiting the library and checking out books

Students generally visit the library with their class once a week to check out books. Books are due two weeks later - but students may return them (and check out more books) on their next weekly visit. Books may be renewed once or twice depending on the student/book. (If you have not finished a book after 4 weeks, it might not be the right book for you. Let’s talk about it!)
Students may also visit the library most days after school to return and check out books. (Sometimes we have to close the library after school for meetings or other events.)

Overdue books

Books are due two weeks after checkout. Students may not check out more books when they have overdue books.
WE DO NOT CHARGE LATE FEES.

Lost or damaged books

While we do not charge late fees, we do have to charge replacement fees for lost or damaged books (see Library funding, below). If you lose or damage a book, you may choose to purchase a replacement instead of paying the fee - but before you do, please consider the following:
I may have another copy of the book in storage. If I do, I would use your replacement fee to purchase a different book for our students to enjoy. Also, if you pay a replacement fee for a lost book, and the book turns up within one year - I will happily refund your fee.

Library funding

Our library receives absolutely NO funding from the state or the school district. We raise money to buy books and all other library supplies by holding two Book Fairs each school year. We have Book Fairs in October and April.

Donations

Yes! Our library accepts book donations. I am especially looking for:

  • Wings of Fire series books
  • Hardcover picture books about unicorns
  • WHO HQ books
  • The Book with No Pictures by B.J. Novak (hardcover)

If you have any questions at all, please email me! I’m here to help!
